(6) Entrance Examination using the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” (only for international students)

Examination Date Take the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” held in June or November 2016. There is no examination held in the university.

Application Qualifications
  1. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have completed (or expected to complete by March 2017) 12 or more years of school education overseas.
  2. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have been recognized as having scholastic ability equivalent to the above.

Applicants must satisfy either (1) or (2) above as well as the following conditions.

-Applicants must take the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” test in the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)” organized by Independent Administrative Institution the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) in June or November 2016. (Taking the EJU is one of the conditions for application.)

Note
The examination must not be confused with the “Japanese-Language Proficiency Test” organized by Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES).
-Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the Japanese language to take classes in Japanese following enrollment.

<Applications within Japan>

-Applicants must possess a status of residence of “Pre-College Student” or “College Student” and must be able to obtain a status of residence of “College Student” following enrollment.

<Applications from outside of Japan>

-Applicants must be able to obtain a status of residence of “College Student” upon entry into Japan to matriculate in the university.
If applicants use the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” as the entrance examination for their admission, applicants must have a status of residence of “Pre-College Student” or “College Student” at the time of application. Please note that those who do not satisfy this condition are not eligible to apply using the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” as the entrance examination.

Important

Only for the Entrance examination using the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students,” the application qualifications are different from other entrance examinations for international students. Please note that applicants using the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” as their entrance examination additionally need to hold a status of residence of “Pre-College Student” or “College Student” at the time of application.

*For physically handicapped applicants <An interview is required prior to application>
Applicants with physical handicaps requiring special arrangements for the examination and study must contact the Admissions Office (075-791-9833) for an interview prior to application.

  1. Applications for interviews must be held one month prior to the start day of the application period. We will send you the necessary documents for the interview.
  2. Applicants are requested to submit an “Interview Request Form” (form designated by the university) and “Medical Certificate.” (Applicants may be asked to submit an opinion, etc. of their physician in charge).
  3. Special arrangements for the examination can be made only in Kyoto(Uryuyama Campus)

2017 School Year Academic Fees

*International students are exempt from the admission fee.

*A sliding scale is adopted for our academic fees.

*Donations are not mandatory.

*Course materials, etc. are necessary in addition to academic fees. The purchase of a personal computer, etc. may be required depending on the department/course.

Financial Support

Academic Fee Exemption/Reducation System

Kyoto University of Art and Design exempts international students from paying the admission fee in order to reduce the financial burden.

Scholarship System

Kyoto University of Art and Design has an original scholarship system.

Target: Students in the second to fourth year of their courses/classes
Details: Payment depending on the results of the previous school year
-Students ranked academically in top 10% of target students: (Monthly) 60,000yen
-Students ranked academically in top 20% of target students: (Monthly) 50,000yen

Important:If a status of residence of “College Student” is not granted…

For applicants who have passed the examination (or those who have passed the final evaluation if evaluations are conducted twice), a certificate of entrance approval will be issued if the necessary enrollment procedure is completed. Following the issuance of this certificate, an application for a status of residence of “College Student” necessary for studying in Japan should be made at the Immigration Bureau of Japan. Please note the “Entrance Approval” will be revoked if a status of residence of “College Student” is not granted.

*Proficiency in Japanese (reading, writing, conversation) is essential for studying in the Kyoto University of Art and Design. To take the entrance examination, please apply after checking the details on the following Japanese website and receiving information material of the admission requirements and an application form in Japanese.

*The Japanese Language school affiliated with our university, Kyoto Institute of Culture and Language, provides Japanese lessons from the beginner level. Japanese proficiency required for studying at the Kyoto University of Art and Design can be acquired in 1.5 to 2 years on average although it may differ depending on the individual. Kyoto Institute of Culture and Language also has a preparatory class for entrance into college and university courses in art and design where drawing is also included in the class.

Common examination for transfers to the second and the third year

*Submitted documents and results of the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” test in the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students” will be comprehensively evaluated following the first examination results and final results will be determined.

*First examination results and final results will be sent by post to the applicants. (Results will be posted on the announcement date.)

*Applicants must obtain "permission to apply to the entrance examination" from their preliminary Review of the Qualification to Apply Entrance Examination for International Transfer Students results before applying.

Transferring Year

Basically, students can choose second or third year of the courses or classes to transfer, however, depending on the evaluation results, some students may be transferred to the second year.

Application Qualifications

Application qualifications for each respective course and class year are as follows. If applicants should happen to make a false declaration in the application or if the prescribed application qualifications are not satisfied, the result of success in the examination or the entrance approval will be revoked.

Application qualifications for transfer to the second year of a course or class
  1. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have completed (or expected to complete by March 2017) 14 years or more of education overseas.

    *However, applicants must possess Bachelor degree, Associate degree, or diploma.

  2. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have graduated (or expected to graduate by March 2017) from a Japanese university/two-year college/college of technology.
  3. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have studied at the same university in Japan for one year or more (excluding periods for leaves of absences) and have obtained (or expected to obtain by March 2017) 30 credits or more.
  4. Applicants possessing nationality from a country other than Japan who have completed (or expected to complete by March 2017) Japanese vocational school/specialized course with a two-year or more course term where the total number of classes required for graduation with the Diploma (Senmonshi) totals 1,700 hours or more and are qualified to enroll in university.

Applicants must satisfy either one of the above (1) to (4) as well as following conditions.

-(Condition only for (1) of above) Applicants must take the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” test in the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)” organized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) in June or November 2016. (Taking the EJU is one of the conditions for application.) The examination must not be confused with the “Japanese-Language Proficiency Test” organized by Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES).
