Kyoto University of the Arts 30th Anniversary
On the momentous occasion of the 30th anniversary celebration of the founding of Kyoto
University of the Arts, I take great pleasure in congratulating President Kazuo Oike, the faculty
members, staff, students and alumni.
This April will mark the beginning of a new era for Kyoto University of the Arts, and I
understand the significance of it because in 2001 National Institute of the Arts was renamed as
Taipei National University of the Arts. From Kyoto University of Art and Design to Kyoto
University of the Arts celebrates your tremendous endeavors in the past and the future.
Kyoto University of the Arts and Taipei National University of the Arts have had a close and
strong relation as sister schools and ALIA (Asian League of Institutes of the Arts) members.
Together we thrive towards “A Future Built on the Arts” your founder Mr. Shochoku
Tokuyama had at his heart.
To end this message, I would like to, once again, extend my most heartfelt wishes to Kyoto
University of the Arts and may your have continued success, prosperous development and a
diamond jubilee to come!

Congratulatory Message for
Kyoto University of the Arts
As a longstanding ALIA Board Member and President of the Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture, I send you, your faculty, students, alumni and staff, our heartfelt congratulations on this 30th anniversary of your University’s founding.
An outstanding educational institution cannot be built overnight. To remain competitive, develop and grow, universities today must become more internationalized, more open to ideas beyond our borders, and hence more flexible, while at the same time, maintaining the roots of our cultural expressions.
This is why we applaud your decision to use this milestone occasion to announce the modified name of your university. It indicates the timely reflection on where your university has been, and where you are headed towards a wider range of offerings in arts education. You have given your university’s 30-year milestone celebration added significance by taking this step and we applaud everyone for the effort it took.
Please accept my very best wishes for your continued success at the new Kyoto University of the Arts!
