Shimane Creation and Development Center (Shimane)

Shimane Creation and Development Center (Shimane)

The Shimane Creation and Development Center opened in August 2015 with the aim to “create a new regional culture through the arts,” combined with “regional community creation,” “regional industry promotion,” and the “creation and revitalization of tourist contents.” The center holds exhibitions of products developed through joint academic-industry projects, as well as public lectures and workshops. It is also open to city residents.

Kyoto University of Art and Design has had a deep connection with Shimane prefecture as the school’s founder, Shochoku Tokuyama was born on Okinoshima island (Amacho town) and the performing of “Umi Kagura” in Yunotsucho since 2005 to the present. Since 2006, the university has coordinated the “Matsue Warrior Parade.” The university has helped to develop every region of Shimane prefecture through academic-industry-government partnerships, working alongside our students. Examples include: a product development project (“Jiku Project”) started with the Shimane Industrial Promotion Foundation in 2010, along with a survey of old buildings in Amacho; and the production of the promotional video “Shimanekko” in 2014, among others. This center will serve to promote in one place the joint activities with various organizations in Shimane prefecture, as well as “the creation a new regional culture through the arts.”
