The exchange students are required the basic language skill of Japanese to apply for exchange program at KUAD.
All classes are taught in Japanese only and we do not have any classes taught in English. Most of the exchange students who do not speak Japanese well take the studio classes (instead of the lecture classes).
The studio classes for exchange students are also limited depending on one’s Japanese skills.
The class list for exchange students will be provided before they arrive at Kyoto.
Exchange students need to consult with their supervisors about the classes at KUAD, upon their arrival, which should be decided basically from the classes of your accepted department. In case that you need more credits or you are keenly interested in other department classes, you may additionally take other department classes, on consulting with the professors of corresponded departments.
Considering the available classes at KUAD and daily life in Japan, we strongly recommend that exchange students learn basic Japanese skill before coming to study at KUAD.

MEXT Scholarship Program

In order to enter KUAD with Japanese government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship, a student needs to follow a predefined procedure on his/her own. Please refer to the related links about the details.

Unfortunately we do not have any on/off campus housing for our students. Exchange students have to find accommodation by themselves. The International Center will provide accommodation information in Kyoto (weekly apartment, guesthouses, and off campus student houses, etc,).
