- Miwa Kaneko graduated from Tsuda University in 2001 with a BA in English Literature (Communication Course). After early career roles in planning and sales at an apparel trading company and in marketing at an IT firm, she studied design at Holmesglen Institute in Australia.
In 2006 she founded sphere design in Tokyo, a studio that works with companies and organizations on branding and web, bringing together business strategy and user experience.
After relocating to Kyoto, she has taught design alongside her practice since 2013, and in 2024 she completed a master's program in Design at Kyoto Institute of Technology.
Her current work, in both the classroom and the studio, explores how design can foster creativity and well-being. In recent years she has also been working on the transmission of embodied knowledge in Japan's traditional arts.

- Bruno Munari once said, “You see what you know.” This reminds us that the way we perceive the world is shaped by our knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Through the study of information design, observing the world from multiple viewpoints—such as a bird’s-eye view, an insect’s-eye view, and a fish’s-eye view—helps us gain deeper insights into society and everyday life beyond business and design. By listening to your own intuition and curiosity, formulating questions, and exploring them through inquiry and experimentation, I hope we can explore new possibilities together.
