Profile
She completed her graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts (Katsuhiko Hibino Laboratory) in 2006, where her research focused on the intersection of contemporary art and communication design. Her career took a definitive turn when her installation piece, Kiteki (2005)—a nested structure based on her original manga—made history as the first manga-themed work to be acquired for the permanent collection of the University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts. This achievement served as a catalyst for her transition from contemporary art into the fields of character design and art direction.

She possesses a particular expertise in strategic planning and concept development. Her recent research focuses on the systematization of formative understanding and expressive development within the design field, grounded in psychological insights related to perceptual constancy.

Her major professional credits include character design for Genius Terebi-kun MAX (NHK E-Tele), art direction and character design for Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido (Nintendo), art direction for TETRIS 99 (Nintendo), and 3DCG direction for Fire Emblem Awakening (Nintendo). In 2025, she was named a Finalist in the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Artemis II ZGI Design Challenge. Her published works include Kiteki: Encyclopedia of the Soul (Seirinkogeisha) among others.

My childhood was a whirlwind of "Whys"—I was constantly busy looking for answers! What kind of "question-asker" were you back then?
My own passion lies in the "Whys" of expression. Questions like: "Why is this design so appealing?" "Why do we judge some art as 'good' and other art as 'bad'?" "Where exactly is that line drawn?" and "How is it that emotions can manifest in a simple drawing?"
To find the answers, I study the mechanisms of expression across the fields of cognitive psychology and social science. I explore how our human cognition and the memories stored in our brains influence the way we "output" sketches, drawings, and illustrations—and how those creations are ultimately communicated to and accepted by others.
The world is built on principles and causality; even things that are invisible have their own underlying reasons for being. Isn't that fascinating?
If you find a "Why" of your own, please come and tell me about it. Let’s head out on an intellectual adventure together!
