Profile
Born in Tokyo (Australian Citizen), works together with Ken Yonetani as the Australian-Japanese artist unit Ken + Julia Yonetani. Ken + Julia Yonetani have exhibited in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, including as part of the Australian representation for the Venice Biennale of Art (2009). They have had solo exhibitions at venues such as the National Gallery of Australia (2015) and Mori Art Museum Collection Tokyo (2019). In 2020-21 they held a major survey show in Japan at the newly constructed Kadokawa Culture Museum and in 2022 a survey exhibition at the QUT Art Museum, Brisbane. They have participated in numerous biennales and art festivals, such as Singapore Biennale (2013), Honolulu Biennale (2017), Taiwan Ceramics Biennale (2022), and Gwangwon International Triennale (2024). Their work is held in major public and private collections, including National Gallery of Australia, 21c Museum Hotels (US), Malmö Art Museum (Sweden), Museum of Applies Arts and Sciences (Sydney, Australia), Takahashi Collection (Japan), Sesame Collection (Japan), Art Gallery of Western Australia, Macquarie Bank Art Collection (Australia), etc. They have also participated in numerous art residencies, including as Guest Artist, Shigaraki Ceramics Culture Park, Shiga Prefecutre, Japan (2020), ISCP, Brooklyn, New York (2017), Asialink Self-Initiated residency, The University of Ryukyu, Okinawa Japan (2014), Kone Foundation Artist Residency Finland (2011) and Synapse Art/Science residency funded by Australian Network for Arts and Sciences (ANAT) (2010). They are represented by Mizuma Gallery (Singapore and Tokyo).
